NAMI Athens Project

NATIONAL ALLIANCE ON MENTAL ILLNESS

I had the privilege to work with an amazing organization, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, or NAMI, in Athens, Ohio. NAMI Athens is a private, family-based organization with two primary purposes: To advocate for and promote the recovery of people with mental illness and to provide information and support to their families. I had the opportunity to meet with them and see what they needed to excel in support and public awareness of the organization. I had been in Athens for 6 years and I had never heard of the organization before. They had little to no advertisements around Athens and Ohio University. I felt if people knew of NAMI, they would use it to their advantage as a resource if they ever needed support or education about mental illness. My project for them was to create an advertisement campaign, I wanted to create something that people can keep with them all the time. I decided to create a sticker and postcard campaign. People put stickers on their computers and phone cases and postcards are small enough to keep in a binder sleeve and can have the same amount of information that a poster has. The stickers are a fun collectible. NAMI can pass stickers and postcards out during events that they attend as a promotion for their organization.
